Drop the village of Sancerre into central California, and the Sauvignon Blanc would taste like this. Bright citrus, white peach, and saline minerality ride a clean, crisp finish. No oak, no excess. Just pure, refreshing Sauvignon Blanc for the table.
Lieu Dit Winery is a Santa Barbara–based winery founded in 2011 by winemakers Justin Willett and Eric Railsback. The project was born from a shared passion for the wines of France’s Loire Valley and a desire to translate that style to California’s Central Coast.
The winery focuses on Loire-inspired varietals such as Sauvignon Blanc, Chenin Blanc, and Cabernet Franc, along with limited bottlings of other French grapes. Sourcing fruit from sustainably farmed vineyards across Santa Barbara County, Lieu Dit emphasizes purity, balance, and site expression, shaped by the region’s cool coastal climate.
Known for its minimalist, low-intervention approach, the wines are typically lower in alcohol, bright, and food-friendly, reflecting the founders’ goal of making “simple, delicious, honest wine.” Over time, Lieu Dit has become a standout in the Central Coast for its elegant, Old World–inspired style with a distinctly California sensibility.
