Bracingly bone dry, minerality for days, crisp and refreshing. It beautifully highlights the aesthetics of the oyster.

Field Recordings owner/winemaker Andrew Jones has seemingly never met a grape variety that he hasn’t wanted to make wine from. He’s had way more hits than misses over the years, and as Yogi Berra might have put it, “this is one of them.”

Shucks is made of a blend of Melon de Bourgogne and Pinot Blanc, grown in the same vineyard in the Chalone district of Monterey County. The vines were planted decades ago as Pinot Blanc, only to discover awhile later that what they thought was Pinot Blanc was actually Melon de Bourgogne, the grape that is used to make Muscadet in the Loire Valley’s  Atlantic coast side. It is crisp and clean and acidic and has enough minerality that you might be able to hold off on your 1-a-day vitamins for a couple of days. Some people prefer more oak and volume in their wines, the rest of us go crazy for the bracing acidity. And shucks, get this bottle real cold and get a dozen (or three dozen) oysters and have yourself a party. It’s a perfect wine-and-food pairing!
