Leo Hansen (Leo Steen) is the founder and winemaker behind Leo Steen Wines, a small-batch, terroir-driven label based in Healdsburg, California. Originally from Denmark, Leo trained as a sommelier in Michelin-rated restaurants before moving to California in 1999, where he honed his winemaking skills while studying chemistry, viticulture, and enology. In 2004, he launched his namesake brand, focusing on
sustainably farmed, often organic or biodynamic vineyards across California. His style emphasizes gentle, food-friendly wines with natural fermentations, minimal oak, and balanced, expressive fruit. Producing fewer than 1,000 cases a year, Leo prioritizes quality, vineyard authenticity, and harmony (but not unison) in every bottle.
