A Chianti-inspired Sangiovese with a Paso Robles twist. Bright cherry and raspberry aromas lead into a juicy palate of plum, spice, and dried herbs. Medium-bodied with lively acidity, fine tannins, and a clean, savory finish. It's okay to buy local.
Colori is the Italian word for color, stemming from “per colori” a phrase used by italian families as they add a touch of wine to color their kids' soda. This was winemaker Harry Hall’s memory of his childhood and seemed an ideal name for his winery.
The 2021 Colori “San Juan Vineyard” Sangiovese is a bright, expressive red reflecting both its Paso Robles roots and its Italian heritage. After learning the ropes from some of Paso’s best winemakers, Harry took a minimalist approach for his own label, favoring hand-harvesting, gentle fermentation, and restrained oak use to let the fruit and vineyard shine. His wines bring to mind Italy’s deep food-and-wine culture, but with the sun-drenched energy of California behind them.
The Sangiovese grapes come from the San Juan Vineyard, located in the San Juan Creek AVA, a subregion of Paso Robles known for its alluvial soils, ample sunshine, and cooling afternoon breezes. This kind of climate allows Sangiovese to ripen fully while preserving the acidity that gives the grape its signature lift. In the glass, the wine bursts with cherry, raspberry, and plum, backed by dried herbs, pepper, and a touch of leather. It's medium-bodied and fresh, with a juicy core and savory finish—classic Sangiovese, but with Paso’s signature generosity.
This wine shines alongside a wide range of foods. Traditional pairings like grilled lamb chops, pasta with tomato-based sauces, or wood-fired pizza work beautifully. It’s also a great match for aged cheeses, charcuterie, and grilled vegetables like eggplant or mushrooms. Versatile, expressive, and food-friendly, this wine shows how well Italian grape varieties can thrive on California’s Central Coast.
